Year Over for Tar Heels Mechals Sunday, August 15th, 2021 Kade Mechals of the Tar Heels just might have to call it quits for the season. The 23-year-old Montgomery reliever received a possible season-ending injury against the Brewster Cats recently at Ballpark of Brewster. Mechals suffered a damaged elbow ligament while throwing a pitch. The Tar Heels medical staff said he could be out quite some time, as much as 11 months. Mechals has made 26 relief appearances this year and notched no saves. To date in 43.2 innings he has a 4-3 record, 3.09 ERA with 62 strikeouts and 15 walks. |
