Matadors Win, 6-5, Extend Streak to 4 Games

With third baseman Rafael Devers leading the charge, the San Diego Matadors defeated the Phoenix Volcanoes, 6-5, at San Diego Grounds. Devers, who finished 3rd in the OLL in hits with 221 last year, was 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. Zack Wheeler earned the win for San Diego. He lasted 5 innings, allowing 5 runs on 7 hits, while striking out 2. With the win, he raised his record to 2-2. Matt Barnes collected his 4th save.
Jose Abreu aided the San Diego cause with a run-scoring single in the bottom of the fourth. For the game, the designated hitter was 1 for 4.
"If you want to be considered a good team, these are the kind of games you have to win," said San Diego manager roark .
