Clarke Fires No-Hitter
Monday, May 17th, 2021
Bonham Anglers starter Chris Clarke said he was standing behind the mound when the scoreboard caught his eye, confirming what he already knew: He was one out from a no-hitter. For a couple of seconds, he didn't move.
"I took a breath and told myself 'This is the last one,'" Clarke recalled.
The right-hander collected himself, got the final out, and finished one of the greatest performances of his career.
The Bonham right-hander no-hit the Reno Tartans 3-0 at Ballpark of Bonham, finishing with 1 walks and 14 strikeouts, facing only 30 batters.
"I knew for a while it was a no-hitter," Clarke admitted later. "But I really didn't worry about it until the last out. I thought I just wanted to win the game, and then I realized I wanted the no-hitter, too."
This season Clarke has worked 53 innings with 72 strikeouts en route to a 5-2 record and a 2.38 ERA.
