Purple Warriors Junis Blanks Yellow Jackets
Wednesday, July 7th, 2021
The Little Rock Purple Warriors shut out the Minneapolis Yellow Jackets 10-0 today behind the strong pitching of Jakob Junis. Junis surrendered only 5 hits in recording the complete-game victory, and struck out 11.
Following the last out, Junis appeared to celebrate a little too boisterously for Minneapolis manager Craig Stevens, who could be seen scolding the famously outspoken right-hander as the clubs left the field. Junis's own manager then intervened with some words for his counterpart.
The Yellow Jackets skipper would not comment on the exchange, but at the Purple Warriors press conference, Junis confirmed that it was regarding the celebration.
"He basically told me I was being a lousy winner," Junis said.
"And I told him he was being a lousy loser," Little Rock manager Cole Linscomb added.
In 17 starts this season Junis has gathered 8 wins while suffering 4 losses. He has pitched 102.1 innings, allowed 89 hits, struck out 114 and has a 3.34 ERA.
