Dietrich and Javier Brawl, League Suspends Them
Saturday, May 22nd, 2021
Yesterday at Ballpark of Modesto Derek Dietrich and Cristian Javier got into each other's space and then into each other's face. They began to grapple and fell to the ground. That's when it boiled over into a full-fledged bench-clearing tussle between the Modesto Mavericks and Huntsville Silver Sabres. Reason finally prevailed as the umpires restored order. After much discussion, only the two major combatants were ejected from the game.
Today the league office notified the ballclubs that Dietrich will have to sit out 3 while Javier would be given a 6-game suspension for their roles in the brawl.
A look at his current stats shows Dietrich with a .243 average, 11 home runs, 25 RBIs and 20 runs scored. He has played in 43 games.
Javier has started 9 times this year, pitched 44.2 innings, fanned 73 batters and walked 16. His current record is 2 wins and 1 loss with a 3.02 ERA.
