Triple Crown to New Orleans's Gerrit Cole
Sunday, September 26th, 2021
There's a new Triple Crown winner -- Simules ace Gerrit Cole powered his way to the top of the Ottoneu Lockdown League in wins, strikeouts and ERA. He was the league's best in all three major pitching categories. In his superb year, the 31-year-old hurler chalked up 22 wins, totaled 372 strikeouts and posted a 2.37 ERA. Cole finished the year 22-4. It looks like a Pitcher of the Year Award might be in his future, too.
Speaking to the press about the award, "It's quite an honor to win the pitching Triple Crown. It's good to be rewarded for hard word. I just do whatever it takes to stay at the top of my game. I have a strong work ethic and pride myself on being the best. My teammates deserve a lot of credit, too. I didn't do this all by myself."
How good a year did Cole have? One opposing batter put it this way: "We're doing the best we can. But when you've got God on the mound throwing against you, it makes it a little tough."
