Hilliard Slugs Phalanx to 7-5 Win
|
Philadelphia and Nashville duked it out and the Phalanx came out victorious.
Getting a good performance from center fielder Sam Hilliard, the Philadelphia Phalanx defeated the Nashville Nightcaps, 7-5. Hilliard slugged 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice for the Phalanx. Matthew Boyd, the winner, improved to 12-5. He held the Nightcaps to 5 runs on 6 hits over 6 innings, while striking out 9 and walking 2. Taylor Rogers was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 22 of 26 save opportunities.
With Philadelphia leading 1-0 in the top of the second, Hilliard came up to bat against Nashville pitcher Shun Yamaguchi. Hilliard hit a forkball to left-center for a 2-run home run. His 13th home run of the season put the Phalanx on top, 3-0.
"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Hilliard.
Philadelphia raised its record to 57-49 with the win.
