The Rochester Squirrel Cats defeated the Seattle Fury, 5-4, in Ottoneu Lockdown League action at Seattle Fields. Rochester pitcher Jimmy Nelson had a standout performance. The winning pitcher was Nelson, now 2-3. He tossed 6 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 4. Thomas Szapucki converted his 2nd save in 3 tries.
Rochester used the timely hitting of Matt Carpenter to seize the win. The designated hitter stroked a 2-run single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Squirrel Cats on top, 5-4. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"As well as we've been playing, I think we can play even better," said Rochester manager sonny1527 .
With the win, Rochester pushed its record to 47-43.
